BONNIE JENKINS
PHOTOGRAPHER
Regardless of the subject, my work and life are inspired by nature as this is my happy place.
first here is a bit about my background as a photographer, or feel free to scoot to the next section for some funner random facts about me.
Born and raised on the Sunshine Coast’s Hinterland, I started my photography career in 1999 studying a diploma of photography then going onto complete a bachelor in Photography at Queensland College of Art, with an exchange to Edinburgh College of Art. In 2008 I expanded my visual art practice completing a Masters in Visual Arts at Falmouth University College, Cornwall, UK.
I learnt photography back when it was all analogue, often labouring all day/s over one image in the darkroom, giving me a respect for all aspects of the medium and processes.
A love for nature and music is what initially attracted me to photography. I soon recognised the mediums ability to preserve fleeting moments, memories, and the true essence of people and places. Through a single image, memories that time would have otherwise faded are brought back to life in an instant.
RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME
HOME & LOVE.
We brought our dream property in 2018 on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and built our dream home, well Dave (my partner) built it. Its 20-acres of stunning bushland, rainforest, views, creeks and a meadow. Having grown up nearby I used to play on the property as a child and dreamed of owning it. The house has stunning 180 views overlooking a gully and meadow and is beside a creek, which you can hear trickling away all year round. I find it the most relaxing place to be.
In 2019 we welcomed our first child, Milli, and in early 2024 we welcomed our 2nd child, a boy, Jarrah.. To witness the world through the wonder filled eyes of a child has to be one of the most grounding and wonderful things in the world.
RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME
TRAVEL & PASSION.
My favourite countries to visit all start with the letter ‘I’ – Iceland, Ireland and Italy. Italy was the first country I visited at the age of 12 and Ireland & Scotland were the first places I went to as a solo traveller at the age of 20.
I am drawn to green landscapes over dry ones, I prefer cold to hot weather, savoury over sweet and dogs over cats.
I love hiking, exploring, cooking and I am a vegetarian who is addicted to chilli, with Italian food being my favourite.
I’m a massive massive animal lover, wombats and otters are some of my favourite.
